Charleston Style Lanterns

This weeks blog is all about beautiful Charleston style outdoor ┬álanterns used for lighting your homes front porch and driveway. I’ve been shopping all week to compare styles and pricing for a current project I’m working on. Living so close to the coast, the moist salt air can often wreak havoc on outdoor light fixtures. One solution is to upgrade to a true copper fixture that will not only last for years to come but that will also gently patina or age over time. If you’re ever vacationed down in Charleston, SC, you can’t help but notice the period light fixtures all over town.

Carolina Lanterns is a company that started in 1999, after founder Jan Clouse had to spend $3500 to have custom Charleston style lanterns made for her front porch. Based right there in Mount Pleasant (just a bridge hop over from the Charleston peninsula), Carolina Lanterns has a beautiful retail store. They offer many styles of lanterns at a variety of price points. Below are some of my favorites.

The retail price of these fixtures range from mostly $450-$599 for an average size wall mount fixture. The Provence however, the Rolls Royce of the bunch, runs about $1100 per fixture. Custom fixtures are available if you have a specific idea in mind. All Carolina Lanterns are available in gas or electric, are hand made from solid copper and have a lifetime guarantee. Oceanfront homeowners are advised to rinse off their lights with fresh water every 3 months or so to keep away salt build up. In the event mother nature takes over, know that the copper is still guaranteed to stay in tact and function for a lifetime. For more information or to check out these beauties yourself, you can visit Carolina Lanterns at or head to 1362 Chuck Dawley Blvd., Mount Pleasant, SC 29464, Phone (843) 881-4170.
